E.P.R. SYSTEM PROTECTS COPYRIGHTS (10/30)

EPR Electronic Commerce Technologies, in Sunnyvale, Calif., will
unveil at Internet World in Boston its NetTrust system, an electronic
copyright protection system for content creators and distributors that
want to do business over the Internet.
NetTrust, a set of applications and tools to ship early next year,
protects the content in a secure container as it travels over the
public network and assures the rights of all parties related to
content use. The digital containers, called DigiBoxes, include a set
of rules and controls established by the originator and available to
recipients who meet those permissions. NetTrust user applications will
be integrated into Internet browsers and online client interfaces.
In a related development, an Electronic Rights Management Group will
form to create standards for protecting intellectual property rights.
It is being established by members of the Information Industry
Association, which include IBM, Netscape, Novell, Excalibur, Folio,
Personal Library Software and Verity.
